Our Premium Garden Mix is a multi-scoop blend of peat moss, compost, perlite, and sandy loam. This soil mix brings nutrient levels to peak amounts while also neutralizing the soil’s pH, which is great for growing plants and vegetation.
Loam, one component of our Premium Garden Mix, consists of almost equal amounts of sand and silt and a little less clay. The sand provides aeration and drainage, while the clay is high in nutrients but is not so great for allowing water, air, and roots to penetrate through. Silt has better moisture retention than sand but fewer nutrients than clay. The silt helps the clay and sand mix together more readily.
Compost, another component of our Premium Garden Mix, refers to the end material produced after organic matter has been decomposed in the composting process. Our compost is typically comprised of decomposed straw, horse, and chicken manure. Compost provides essential nutrients to the soil and, in turn, your plants and vegetables.
Peat Moss and Perlite are the final components of our Premium Garden Mix. Both are included for their water retention properties, slowly releasing water to your plants’ roots.

Topsoil Versus Premium Garden Mix
While topsoil can be great for levelling out your yard, it does not contain the nutrient or water retention properties like our Premium Garden Mix. Simply because topsoil is only screened loam and does not contain any compost, peat moss or perlite. Therefore, if you are overseeding, filling planter boxes, or building a vegetable garden, Premium Garden Mix is the proper choice.
