Mulch, often known as wood chips, is popular among homeowners because it provides a finishing touch and eye-catching appeal to any landscaping project. Whether it's Douglas Fir and Cedar mulch's natural brown and red hues or the distinctive contrast of naturally dyed Black mulch. 

Aside from its visual appeal, mulch is also a natural insulator, and adding a thin layer to landscaped beds in the fall can help insulate your perennials against the cold. Mulch improves water retention and can help keep your soil moist in periods of heat. Mulch also prevents soil erosion and deters weeds and unwanted growth from encroaching on your gardens, patios, and other landscaped areas.

Size Options
Mulch comes in various sizes, referred to as nuggets or shreds. The largest-sized mulch option we carry is medium-sized nuggets, which contain more prominent pieces of bark. Alternatively, medium-shred and finely-shred options are available. On high slopes or windy areas, we suggest using a heavier product such as medium-sized Douglas Fir Bark Nuggets to make the installation and maintenance more manageable.

Ordering Bagged Mulch
The variety of mulch you choose and the purpose of the mulch will dictate how much mulch you need for your project. In general, 3-4 inches of mulch will give you good coverage. However, if you are using our medium-sized nuggets, you may need to use more to avoid the appearance of any gaps in the mulch. Mulching around plants in a vegetable garden will require less mulch than a more extensive garden bed or trees. When ordering in the CLS Landscape Bag, we use increments of 0.25 Cubic Yards, with one full bag equalling 1 Cubic Yard.

How to Apply Mulch? 
Mulching is time-consuming and you must be careful not to apply mulch too soon in the spring when the ground is still cold. This will delay the soil's thawing process and prevent seedlings from developing. When laying mulch around tree trunks, you must also be cautious.
